What are Chi Running and Chi Walking?
Chi Running and Chi Walking shift the emphasis of your exercise towards your core muscles and away from your legs. They seek to develop an energy efficient and low impact approach to exercise which is best thought of as a mindful practice. Many runners and walkers find learning the 'chi approach' is a turning point in their lives when they no longer suffer from injury and pain, and instead find a big increase in the enjoyment of their exercise.
Chi Running and Chi Walking are ultimately aimed at setting up the conditions for energy to flow in your body. Through developing flexibility and posture with a focus on the breath, yoga very much complements the Chi Running and Chi Walking approach.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness techniques help you stay relaxed, present and focussed in each moment. Learning mindfulness meditation and related techniques has revolutionised the lives od many millions of people across the world. Becky has been trained by Bangor University, and her teaching is based on the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction approach.
What about the Sunday run?
This optional run will be at a pace to suit all abilities and will take place on Sunday morning. The run will last up to 2 hours, and will be designed in a figure of 8 route in order that some runners will be able to complete a reduced distance should they wish to. Running technique and a mindful attitude rather than speed will be the focus of this run.
How much Chi Running or Walking will I learn?
Please note this day is intended as an introduction to Chi Running rather than every aspect of the technique. The day will be ideal for those interested in developing their learning further, through a 'building the foundations' day or 'Freedom on the Trails' events. There would be a chance on the Sunday run to gain some one to one feedback and further guidance. The majority of the Chi Walking technique will be covered, although further learning would be encouraged to help you develop your practice.
Please note: the majority of the day will be indoors, although some parts of the running workshop may take place outdoors.
These events are run twice a year, so keep an eye on my newsletter or contact me for the next date.
