Freedom To Run - Ease, Efficiency, Speed

Jon Burdon, Chi Running and Chi Walking instructor based in England and Wales

Chi Walking

Think of Chi Walking as relaxed mindful movement. Chi Walking Workshops run from 10am and typically finish around 1pm. During the morning you will be introduced to the Chi Walking technique, and start to gain confidence in understanding the style. Chi Walking Workshops last for a half day only. I also offer a Chi Walking Experience Day, which includes practise of different types of Chi Walking in the afternoon.

Workshop Focus Topics

Your learning will move through the following areas:

Posture - use your skeleton not your muscles to support your body

Ankle Lift - remember, a relaxed muscle will not get injured

Leading with your upper body

Arm Swing - relax and provide directional alignment

Walking at different speeds and with different focusses

Practical exercises

DSCF6838You will learn the Chi Walking technique through a numerous range of different exercises. You will learn to 'body sense' what different elements of Chi Walking feel like so that you can apply them more easily when you are moving.

Training Tips

There will be plenty of chances throughout the day to ask questions and gain pointers on how to progress as a Chi Walker using the 'Five Mindful Steps.'

Video Analysis

You will receive individual feedback on the day using annotated slow motion video analysis. This will help to provide further visual cues to help you understand and personalise your learning. There will also be a summary video made available privately to the group with individual next steps for you to work on.

Your outcomes

  • Learn how to develop a more fluid and relaxed walking style. During your half day course, you will:
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the Chi Walking technique.
  • Engage with practical exercises designed to help you learn the Chi Running / Walking technique.
  • See demonstrations of elements of Chi Walking  and ask questions.
  • Access to video analysis, with specific feedback on your running technique.

Further development

My hope is that Chi Walking will become for you a long lasting mindful practise. To this end, I recognise that everything doesn't happen over night. Most people need ongoing support, review and follow up. There are various ways to go about this and facebook and other media go a long way to helping us, but for most prople they are not enough. I also offer 1 to 1 reviews in person or via video clips by email. If paid for at the time of booking your workshop, I offer a discount for this service.
