Learn Chi Running: Building The Foundations

For Chi Running, Workshops run from 10am and typically finish around 4pm (although times may vary - please check before you book.) During the morning you will be introduced to the Chi Running technique, and start to gain confidence in understanding the style. There will be a break for a light lunch (included in the workshop price) during which we will have an opportunity to gain feedback from the morning session. 

Workshop Focus Topics

Your learning will move through the following areas:

Posture - use your bodies structure to provide support and stability

Ankle Lift - relaxed muscles are less likely to get injured

Lean - cooperate with gravity

Arm Swing - relax and use your arms to help you run more efficiently

For Chi Running, you will develop these ideas further, including stride length and cadence.

Practical exercises

DSCF6838You will learn the Chi Running technique through a numerous range of different exercises. You will learn to 'body sense' what different elements of Chi Running feel like so that you can apply them more easily when you are running. Body looseners will help you prepare your body for each time you run.

Training Tips

There will be plenty of chances throughout the day to ask questions and gain pointers on how to train as a Chi Runner / Walker.

Video Analysis

You will receive individual feedback on the day using annotated slow motion video analysis. This will help to provide further visual cues to help you understand and personalise your learning. There will also be a summary video made available privately to the group with individual next steps for you to work on.

Your outcomes

  • Learn how to develop a more fluid and relaxed running style. During your 1 day course, you will:
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the Chi Running / Walking technique.
  • Engage with practical exercises designed to help you learn the Chi Running / Walking technique.
  • See demonstrations of elements of Chi Running and ask questions.
  • Access to video analysis, with specific feedback on your running technique.

Further development

Change doesn't happen over night. You aren't fluent in a new language after a short course in that language. Chi Running is a change in mindset that you need to commit to. My hope is that Chi Running and Walking will become for you a long lasting mindful practise. Most people need ongoing support, review and follow up. There are various ways to go about this and facebook and other media go a long way to helping us, but for most people they are not enough. I also offer follow up mini workshops which involve a group run. 1 to 1 reviews in person or via video clips by email are also available. If paid for at the time of booking your workshop, I offer a discount for this service.
